Woman dies after being found unconscious on Mazarrón Beach
Witnesses began CPR and used a nearby defibrillator after the 66-year-old was found unresponsive at the water's edge

A 66-year-old woman has died after being found unconscious at the water's edge on Parazuelos Beach in Mazarrón on Monday June 30.
Emergency services were called at around 11.40am after some people on the beach discovered the woman unresponsive and in cardiac arrest. They immediately began CPR, while a defibrillator from a nearby campsite was brought to the scene and used in an attempt to revive her.
Lifeguards, Civil Protection volunteers from Mazarrón and Lorca, and a mobile emergency unit from the 061 emergency medical service were all dispatched to the beach.
Despite the quick response from members of the public and emergency crews, the woman could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident was one of two serious emergencies attended by rescue services along Murcia's coastline that day.
Later on Monday, an 80-year-old man was rescued from the sea at Pedrucho Beach in La Manga after being pulled from the water semi-conscious by other swimmers.
Emergency services received several calls shortly before 1:00pm reporting that the man required urgent medical attention. Lifeguards and healthcare staff from San Javier's beach surveillance service attended the scene alongside a mobile 061 emergency unit.
After being stabilised on the beach, he was transported in an adapted beach wheelchair before being taken by ambulance to Cartagena’s Santa Lucía Hospital for further treatment.
Remember to take care during the busy summer months, especially for older swimmers. Take breaks from the sun, drink plenty of water, and avoid staying out in the hottest part of the day.
