Patrulla Águila in action in the skies over Murcia and Cartagena on 11th June
The C-101 jets of the aerobatics team are being withdrawn from service after the huge air show in San Javier on Sunday
The Patrulla Águila, the San Javier-based aerobatics team of the Spanish Air Force which this year celebrates its 40th anniversary, are performing fly-pasts over the cities of Cartagena and Murcia during the morning of Wednesday 11th June, expressing their appreciation of both as they also bid goodbye to the C-101 aircraft which are being retired over the next few days.
The display in Cartagena is scheduled for 11.40 as the planes approach the city from the sea, and from there it’s north to the regional capital for a second display programmed for 12.00 midday, as they follow the course of the River Segura to congratulate Murcia on the 1,200th anniversary of its foundation.
However, the C-101 jets still remain in service until the major Aire 25 air show being held this coming weekend in San Javier, when guest display teams include the Red Arrows from the UK, the Patrouille de France, la Frecce Tricolori from Italy and the Patrouille Suisse. Present at that event will be King Felipe VI, who completed his air force officer training in San Javier, and only after the show are the CASA C‑101 to be replaced by the Pilatus PC‑21.
