Man arrested for raping a woman and exposing himself in San Javier
Suspect matching woman’s description was caught by local police in San Javier after being accused by waiter
Local Police in San Javier have arrested a man who allegedly raped a woman on August 9 and then exposed himself to a waiter in a casino two days later.
The first case began after 6am when the “112” emergency number received a call from a resident of Avenida del Taibilla saying that a woman was crying in the street.
A second call five minutes later reported that a young woman, who was sitting in the street behind a gambling hall on Calle Zaragoza, was crying and saying she had been sexually assaulted.
A patrol was sent and the officers found the woman, who was clearly agitated and told them that her assailant had approached her in the street behind the gambling hall.
She said a short, skinny man of North African appearance, with curly hair and glasses, had come over on an electric scooter, and offered her certain drugs if she came back to his house with him.
She said she had agreed because she was addicted to these substances.
When they were both near Calle Burgos, the man pulled out a knife and put it to her neck and forced her to come with him to an empty plot of land nearby, the woman explained.
She alleged it was there that he threatened and raped her, and then left on his scooter.
The officers searched the area but could not find anyone who looked like the man she said attacked her.
They also took the victim to Los Arcos hospital for treatment and a forensic examination. The case was then passed on to the Guardia Civil for further investigation.
On August 11 at 7.30am, the local police received an alert that a waiter was being harassed in a different gambling bar, on Avenida Neptuno.
The same officers who had responded to the sexual assault went to the bar and saw a man who matched the description that the woman had given them of her assailant.
They asked for his identification and he admitted he had been in that area that day, but refused to give any more details, adding that he was homeless and lived on the streets.
The waiter who had called the police told the officers he had been cleaning the bathrooms when that man came in, closed the door, dropped his trousers and asked him for sex.
The worker said he had to push the man out of his way so he could get out.
Since the man looked so much like the rape victim had described, and given the accusation made in the bar, the suspect was arrested and taken to the Guardia Civil station in Santiago de la Ribera pending his arraignment before a court.
