Guardia Civil headquarters project presented in Los Alcázares
Los Alcázares will be home to 54 officers of the Guardia Civil
The Town Hall of Los Alcázares is hailing the project to create a Guardia Civil headquarters in the CIDETUR building in Avenida Cartagena (click for map) as a major step forward in both improving the forces of law and order and in establishing the town once and for all as the hub of local society it has become.
With a population of over 20,000 all year round, rising to approximately 70,000 during the peak of summer, Los Alcázares has grown rapidly since achieving municipal independence in 1983. As recently as 1991 there were only 3,683 permanent residents, but now the calls for more public health services and other facilities are fully justified.
The new Guardia Civil project was presented on 18th February and will require the conversion of part of the building on the part of the Town Hall at a cost of around 200,000 euros, and once it is ready it will be the base for 54 Guardia agents. Some of those will begin work in the coming few weeks, at which point it is expected that there will be a noticeably increase in their presence on the streets and roads of the municipality.
