Extra facilities for bathers with special needs at the beaches of Águilas this summer
Amphibious bathing chairs, mobility crutches and flexible walkways at numerous Águilas beaches in 2025
With the weather in the Costa Cálida set to warm up over the second half of May preparations for the summer have been stepped up another notch in Águilas, where new facilities have been installed at some of the beaches to improve accessibility for all under the Sustainable Tourism plan.
The latest improvements include 6 new amphibious bathing chairs, which enable physically disabled people weighing between 25 and 130 kilos to enjoy a dip in the Mediterranean under supervision and in complete safety, as well as flexible wooden walkways which can be laid wherever and whenever they are required. In addition, 8 amphibious crutches have been acquired in various sizes, improving mobility in the water for physically impaired bathers. The crutches are made from water resistant materials including aluminium and rubber to guarantee their durability and buoyancy while ensuring that they do not sink into the sand.
5 beach walkers are also now in the possession of the beach lifeguard and monitoring team for the summer, while the 13 flexible walkways can be laid on all kinds of terrain. They feature a non-slip surface and are 100% recyclable, and the white border markings are designed to help those with poor eyesight.
The council has also explained that all lifeguards and beach monitors this summer will be adequately trained to ensure that those with special needs are as well looked after as possible, making the beaches of Águilas an attractive destination for those who might otherwise not be able to enjoy their seaside holidays fully.

Águilas boasts 28 kilometres of coastline, with many fine, sandy beaches, sheltered coves and unspoilt natural beaches. It is a great summer favourite with Spanish holidaymakers, so always has a superb programme of concerts and activities throughout the summer, as well as the biggest carnival in the Region of Murcia, 40 days before Semana Santa (Easter.)
Throughout the year it also has a number of museums and historical attractions, a castle with fabulous views overlooking the bay and several other points of interest, all of which make it an good place to visit for days out. Throughout the year the tourist office runs monthly guided tours and the route of the railways, which explores the railway history of the town.
The tourist information office is located in the Plaza de Antonio Cortijos, just a short walk from the sea front and Plaza de España, a cool, shaded space in which to enjoy a coffee.
