Cartagena's port sparks a new era of hospitality and regeneration
The rejuvenation of Cartagena’s historic centre takes a leap forward as the AC Hotel Cartagena reopens after significant renovation.
Renovation work is now underway at the port of Cartagena, marking the start of a wider transformation in the city’s heart. A key symbol of this change is the reopening of the centrally located AC Hotel Cartagena.
After five months of intensive upgrades, the hotel swung open its doors to visitors from Tuesday August 5, offering a modernised space for both tourists and locals to enjoy. Among the first to sample the new facilities was the Atlético de Madrid youth team, whose presence quickly made the revamped bar area, with its striking central counter, the talk of the town.
Staff at the hotel say they are ready for a new phase, determined to provide the same friendly welcome in a more stylish and comfortable setting. The ambition is to attract not only holidaymakers but also business travellers seeking fresh opportunities in the growing Cartagena area.
The project is one of several in the pipeline as Cartagena undergoes significant change. As work on the AC Hotel Cartagena comes to a close, another development has kicked off in Plaza José María Artés, where Grupo Unión has started work on luxury apartments on the site of the old La Obrera bar.
These moves are part of a broader trend across the Region of Murcia. The region is set to welcome sixteen new hotels over the next three years, boosting the number of beds available to visitors and providing a major lift for local tourism. Cartagena itself is due to see four of these new openings, underlining its status as a key destination on the coast and a city on the rise.
With fresh investment flowing into historic areas, both visitors and residents are set to benefit from upgraded facilities and an increasingly attractive city centre. The reopening of the AC Hotel Cartagena is already proving to be a bright example of Cartagena’s ongoing revival and growing appeal.
