Ziplining in the Region of Murcia: four suggestions for great outdoor adventure days in the Costa Calida
Adrenalin rushes for children and adults alike in some of the most spectacular scenery of Murcia
Safe ziplines designed for children have become relatively commonplace in parts of the UK over recent years, mini versions having been installed in many children’s playgrounds, but in Spain they are still comparatively hard to find.
However, there are some spectacular places in the Region of Murcia where outdoor adventure opportunities such as ziplining and other pursuits are offered.
These facilities are open not only to youngsters, but also to any adults who would secretly quite like to join in – and let’s face it, that includes quite a few of us!
The following is a selection of just four of these locations, all of them in attractive areas where the availability of an adrenalin rush on a zipline is far from being the only reason to visit!
1. Murapark in the Ricote valley
The Valle de Ricote is an oasis of green countryside in the mostly arid landscape of the Region of Murcia, full of gorgeous scenery and characterized by the vegetation which thrives on the water brought by the River Segura.
In the midst of this setting is Murapark, an outdoor activity centre for the whole family which is open all year round, offering a rock climbing wall, archery, mini-golf, paintball, buggy routes, a treasure hunt, pedal boats, karting and an “aerial adventure route”, including ziplining. The longer line here is over 300 metres long and a treat for adventurers (both young and not so young). Don’t miss it!
The park also features a picnic and barbecue area, making this a great day out in the heart of the Murcia countryside!
2. Tentegorra Aventura, Cartagena
Located in countryside of Tentegorra, just to the west of the city of Cartagena, this leisure park can be visited by both members and non-members and has a superb array of sports and adventure facilities.
There are swimming pools, tennis courts, a wonderful maze, children’s and barbecue areas, a climbing wall, and a thrilling adventure circuit featuring wooden walkways suspended among the pine woods and the great zipline experience towards which all visitors inevitably gravitate!
Again, this is a superb destination for a day out with all the family, with a canteen and picnic area available for lunch, and not for nothing is it a favourite for school trips – and team-building outings for adults on works days out!
3. Aventura 5 in Sierra Espuña
The Vía Ferrata del Ciervo in the regional park of Sierra Espuña is not for the faint-hearted and is almost certainly not the best place to take the grandchildren. However, for those who are committed to the spirit of adventure and the outdoor life it is a must-see location, with the route in the mountains including the choice between a 40-metre zipline known as the “Line of the Gods” and a line where adventurers have to propel themselves using their arms rather than relying on gravity. This latter option ends with a 30-metre rappel.
4. The regional park of El Valle
The Centro Ecuestre of El Valle in the mountains near La Alberca, a few kilometres from the city of Murcia, is a popular adventure destination for those heading out of the regional capital for the day and enjoying some mountain air. The activities on offer here include horse riding, archery, climbing and a zipline, all of them absolutely safe for youngsters and with great views out over the flood plain of the Segura and the city of Murcia.
Happy Ziplining!
