VIDEO: Wild boar family takes a stroll along Granada's popular walking route
No incidents reported as local police guide animals back to the wild

A family of wild boars caused a bit of a stir in Granada on Sunday night, May 4, as they were spotted wandering near homes in the Sierra and Bola de Oro areas. Several residents contacted the local police after seeing around six boars, a mix of adults and younger animals, close to the residential zone.
Two police patrols responded to the calls and used their vehicle lights and sirens to gently steer the animals away. Fortunately, there were no injuries or damage, and the boars returned to their natural surroundings without difficulty.
This type of encounter is not uncommon in spring, when wild animals are more likely to venture closer to urban areas. In fact, this weekend there were also sightings of wild boars along the so-called ‘Cholesterol Route’, a popular riverside path lined with vegetation that runs alongside the Genil River and links Granada with the nearby town of Cenes de la Vega.
Granada’s local police have since issued a reminder to residents about what to do if they come across wild boars, particularly at night when sightings are more frequent. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), they explained: “Due to the proximity of their surroundings, it is likely to find them on our streets, especially at night.”
Granada police recommended taking the following precautions if anyone sees boars in urban areas:
- Avoid getting close, they might attack if they feel cornered or are defending their young
- Do not deposit bags with food remains outside of containers
The boars are not considered aggressive, but they can be protective if they feel threatened, particularly when young are involved. Authorities are asking the public to be cautious and respectful of local wildlife.
It’s not the first time wild boars have made unexpected appearances in Spanish towns. Back in February, a group of boars was spotted rummaging through rubbish bins outside a shopping centre on the Costa del Sol, turning heads and grabbing headlines.
And so, while it may be fairly surprising to see wild animals out for a night time wander through Granada’s leafy areas, the police response ensured a peaceful outcome and a safe return for all involved.
