Two elderly swimmers die on Murcia beaches in just one day
Both incidents occurred this Sunday, with efforts to resuscitate the victims proving unsuccessful

Two elderly swimmers lost their lives on Sunday June 22 in separate incidents on beaches in the Region of Murcia, prompting renewed concern over beach safety as summer begins.
In the late afternoon, a 65-year-old woman died on Las Delicias beach in Águilas after getting into trouble in the water. Emergency services received an alert at 7.42pm after she was pulled from the water unconscious. CPR was carried out on the beach, but despite the efforts of a Mobile Emergency Unit from the regional 061 health service, her death was confirmed at 8.36pm.
Earlier the same day, an 85-year-old man died while swimming at La Mota beach in San Pedro del Pinatar (pictured). The emergency centre was alerted at 12.53pm, reporting that the man had lost consciousness. Civil Protection officers found him in cardiorespiratory arrest, apparently after swallowing a large amount of water. Paramedics could do nothing but confirm his death at the scene.
