Flu vaccinations now available for all those registered with Murcia health service
The regional health authority has opened flu vaccinations up to the general population starting November 28
Influenza vaccinations are now available to the general population after immunisation against respiratory infections (influenza and seasonal dose of vaccine adapted against Covid-19) began in October with priority groups, which include children up to 5 years of age or workers in contact with pigs or poultry, as well as people aged 60 years or older or minors with risk conditions, healthcare workers, pregnant women or essential personnel.
The general population not considered at risk will now be able to request a flu vaccination online through the Cita Previa Portal, at their health centre, doctor's office, or usual vaccination point starting on November 28.
As of November 22, global influenza vaccination coverage among children up to 5 years old is 44.76%.
In other groups, although the 50% coverage target for people aged 60 or older in influenza vaccination has not yet been achieved, the extent of coverage is better than last years campaign. In this age group, influenza vaccination reaches a percentage of 39.09%, around two percentage points more than the same week of the 2023-2024 campaign. In relation to the seasonal dose of the adapted vaccine against Covid-19, the updated coverage is 22.9% (up more than six percentage points compared to the 2023-2024 campaign).
As in other years, due to the slowdown in the seasonal vaccination rate in priority groups and the availability of sufficient doses, the Regional Health Minister, Juan José Pedreño, announced that from November 28 people belonging to non-priority groups can request an appointment for the flu vaccination that will begin.
Regarding the adapted vaccine against Covid-19, the national and regional protocols indicate that there is currently no epidemiological reason to open this vaccination to the general population.
