Most supermarkets and shopping centres throughout Murcia will close early on Christmas Eve
December 24 is one of the most special days of the year, marking the start of Christmas and a time for family gatherings and celebrations. While it’s not an official public holiday, the atmosphere across the Region of Murcia changes noticeably, with busy streets, festive plans and a surge in last minute shopping.
Christmas Eve is traditionally a day for picking up final gifts or ingredients for Christmas dinner. However, anyone planning a last minute dash to the shops should bear in mind that many supermarkets, shops and shopping centres close earlier than usual. Checking opening times in advance can help avoid disappointment.
Here is a guide to the opening hours announced so far for December 24 in the Region of Murcia.
Large Stores
- El Corte Inglés will be open from 10am to 8pm in both Murcia city and Cartagena.
- Ikea will open from 10am to 3pm.
- MediaMarkt stores in Nueva Condomina, Ronda Sur in Murcia and Lorca will trade from 10am to 7pm.
Shopping centres
- Nueva Condomina shopping centre has not yet confirmed whether it will close earlier than usual, with no updates currently published on its website or social media channels.
- Thader shopping centre has also not announced any changes to its usual opening hours at the time of writing.
- La Noria Outlet will be open from 10am to 6pm.
- Atalayas shopping centre will close at 7pm.
- Espacio Mediterráneo has not yet confirmed whether it will reduce its opening hours.
- Dos Mares shopping centre will be open from 10am to 8pm.
- Parque Almenara shopping centre has confirmed that its shops will close earlier, with a closing time of 7pm.
Supermarkets
- Carrefour has confirmed that its stores will close at 7pm on December 24.
- Consum supermarkets will be open from 9am to 7.30pm.
- Mercadona stores will trade from 9am to 7pm.
Shoppers are advised to keep an eye on official websites and social media pages for any last minute updates, as opening hours may still be subject to change.

Where to shop Cartagena and the Mar Menor Murcia
The Espacio Mediterráneo shopping centre is on the eastern outskirts of Cartagena, heading out of the city towards La Manga and the Mar Menor, and contains a large Carrefour hypermarket, as well as C&A, Primark, Zara, Massimo Dutti, Levi's, Sdera, Mango, Benetton, Springfield, Stradivarius, Rumbo, Women's Secret, The Phone House, Game Stop, HyM, restaurants, a cinema complex and a bowling alley.
There are a wide range of retail outlets specializing in fashion, household goods, cosmetics, accessories, holiday necessities, electrical goods and footwear, including big name brands and other major brands also operate large stores in the neighbouring retail park.
Those who enjoy their shopping will be quite happy to spend the entire day here, enjoying a 
well-earned break at lunchtime to enjoy one of the restaurants or bars, most of which are located on the first floor above the main entrance hall. There are fourteen establishments to choose from, offering kebabs or pasta, hamburgers or ice-cream, tapas or Brazilian barbecues: there's bound to be something for everyone among the dishes on offer!
With easy motorway access and ample parking both on the main concourse of the retail park and underneath the Carrefour hypermarket, it's easy to leave the car while you stroll around the pleasant, modern mall before filling the boot with your purchases and heading back after a hard day's shop!
