Claustro de la Universidad, Universidad de Murcia

Murcia University cloisters

Claustro de la Universidad, Universidad de MurciaThis is the original Murcia University building in the heart of the old centre of Murcia known as the La Merced campus. The modern University is on the outskirts of the city at Espinosa and is a large self-contained complex accessed from the main ringroad.

The University in Murcia is the third oldest in Spain and was founded in 1272 by Alfonso X of Castile.

Inside the La Merced building is a cloisters, used for various cultural performances and activities throughout the year, the claustro de la universidad.
Behind the main campus building is the Plaza Universidad. This has a large covered concrete structure with seating and is used for outdoor cultural performances, most notably the Folk dancing festival which is a core element of the Murcia feria every year.
