Andalucía smashes tourism records as visitors spend more and stay year-round

Nearly 38 million tourists, record jobs and rising spending underline the region’s growing confidence

Andalucía has set a new tourism record, welcoming almost 38 million visitors in 2025 and reinforcing its position as one of Spain’s strongest and most resilient travel destinations.

According to figures released this Monday by the Junta de Andalucía, the region received a total of 37.9 million tourists last year, a rise of 5.2% compared to 2024. Growth was driven by both international arrivals, which increased by 6.6%, and domestic tourism, up by 5%. Tourism minister Arturo Bernal said the results “not only exceed our expectations but also confirm the strength of a model that prioritises quality, revenue and employment.”

The figures reflect a broader national trend in which Spain is earning more from tourism despite slower growth in visitor numbers. Across the country, fewer tourists are spending more, pushing total tourism income to record levels. In Andalucía, this shift is clearly visible in the numbers.

Average daily spending per visitor reached €87.35, almost 7% higher than a decade ago, while average spending per trip rose to €542. Tourism revenue approached €27 billion, pushing the total economic impact of the sector beyond €30 billion for the first time.

Employment also hit new highs. An average of 482,000 people worked in tourism during the year, with peaks of up to 531,000 jobs in the third quarter, marking the first time the sector has surpassed half a million jobs. Tourism accounted for 43% of all new jobs created in Andalucía in 2025. At the same time, employment became more stable, with temporary contracts accounting for just 20% of jobs, the lowest proportion on record, compared with 41% in 2019.

Tourist activity was not limited to the traditional hotspots. Hotels recorded more than 57 million overnight stays, the highest figure ever, while 775 of Andalucía’s 785 municipalities welcomed tourists. Notably, 49 towns received international visitors for the first time, supporting the Junta de Andalucía’s push towards inland and rural tourism and a more balanced, year-round model.

Málaga, Granada, Córdoba and Seville remained the most popular destinations for Spanish travellers, with Seville alone attracting nearly six million visitors. Air connectivity continued to improve, with more than 139,000 flights and 19.6 million passengers, 72% of them international.

For Andalucía, the message is clear. Tourism is growing, spreading more evenly across the region and generating more value, not just more footfall.
